Welcome to Alston Moor Federation.

Our Federation comprises three schools: Alston Primary School; Nenthead Primary School; and Samuel King’s School. Each of our schools are very small so we work as one federation to maximise learning and opportunities for all of our pupils. We see the size of our schools as a real advantage.

As you browse our website, we hope to give you an insight into the life of our schools, our values and our ethos. Each of our schools offers you all that you would expect from small welcoming settings. We are proud of the ‘family feel’ that we have created in the three schools and believe that each is the perfect environment in which young people can flourish. Our motto of ‘What starts here changes the world’ encompasses what we aim to achieve for our pupils – we support pupils to learn and achieve so that they can use education to enable choices when leaving our schools or moving to the next phase of education. We want your child’s time at school to be a special time where they are supported through a curriculum and extraordinary opportunities that make learning fun.

We serve the close-knit communities of Alston Moor and the upper Weardale and Teesdale valleys. Links with parents, carers and families are very strong and our schools are at the heart of our communities. Students and staff know each other well. Our children feel secure and gain the skills, qualifications and confidence that they need to enjoy their lives outside and beyond school.

There is, of course, nothing better than seeing our schools first-hand, and so we invite you to come and meet with us and see for yourself why each of our schools is a great choice for your children.
