To further enhance their understanding of the background context of poverty in the novel 'Oliver Twist', Year 8 students have been utilising historical sources to learn more about the Alston Workhouse. They examined documents and photographs provided by the Alston Moor Historical Society, and analysed Inspector's reports and evidence collated by the website 'workhouses.org.uk'. Students were then asked to summarise and present their findings in a visual way.
